MANGIARE!There is something intangible about food that is so full of
flavour it jumps off the plate. At Harvest Home this special
quality is testament to Suzi McKay’s vision. The experience of
ingredients that makes the food so special is enhanced by the
surroundings in which you stay, eat and dine.
Whether you are dropping in for a casual meal; indoor or set
amongst the arbours that surround Harvest Home or you book a
Degustation dining experience in the Victoria Room, the seasonal
variety, deliciousness and attention to detail is an award
recognised quality.
Winning awards and Chef’s Hats is not easy. In a country based
establishment away from the limelight, the concern will always be
that the menu will be judged on how it compares to trends or that
it needs to match the gastronomy of peers in the city. McKay
sticks to what patently works here. The ingredients are always
seasonal, fresh, locally grown country produce apart from what
Suzi has herself preserved.
The menu is redolent with robust flavours; aged meats such as
chemical free, grass fed beef hung til it’s blue, rare breed pork,
game, charcuterie, local crustaceans and fresh or house smoked
fish. Harvest Home achieves a fine state of being. It reminds one
of gentrified country fare in the gamekeeper’s style. Combined
with deep sticky, painfully slow, reduction sauces or preserves,
the menus are beauties… and don’t be shy about asking for
vegetarian. What you get will be fresh from the garden. Yum!
Marry the menu with local wines and you will find matches made in
heaven.
